Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then located many other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests indicate the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; authorities are currently not aware of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities announced they were working "to solve the case" and have appealed to the community for tips.
An important official stated the attack made him stunned and needed to be addressed quickly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he wrote on online, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a assailant targeting residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
